Best Anitivirus s/w??

Hi,

I would like to know which is the best antivirus s/w that is free and does the job well in the "free AV" league (??).

I have the AVG right now and Norton Antivirus (one that comes with the google pack). What are your opinion on these?

Any help will be appreciated :)

Best Anitivirus s/w??computer repair

AVG Free is the most popular free solution available at no cost to home users and provides the high level of detection capability that millions of users around the world trust to protect their computers.

Easy to use, low system resources

Automatic update functionality

Real-time protection as files are opened and programs are run

AVG鈥檚 Virus Vault for the safe handling of infected files

Best Anitivirus s/w??free antivirus

GO TO WWW.DOWNLOAD.COM
most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser.

you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus. i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar.

firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser.

as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE. download firefox for free, Just have a try:

Just got a mac, anti virus and other questions?

Well i just got a imac

I don't want to pay for antivirus software, i get norton free with my internet service should i go with that or do avg or something like that, what is good for a mac?? any other spyware software, etc..i should get beside antivirus?

Second question how do you take care of the imac to make sure its always running smoothly?

Like with xp i use to:

Delete cookies and all internet files etc

run disk clean up

run disk defrag

run scan disk/check disk

then run antivirus, spywares, etc...

Every week or two.

Is the mac different?? how do you maintain a healthy mac lol??

Just got a mac, anti virus and other questions?computer security

MACS DON'T GET VIRUSES, there are very few anti-virs for macs...don't really need to do anything to keep healthy! just always is.

MAC can also get viruses. However, the real threats in mac are hackers, rootkits and keyloggers. Always update your OS as soon as there is one. Safe surfing is always the best protection you have.
Okay, it is a myth that Macs could get viruses. Really, people have tried but not succeeded. (They could get hacked theoretically, but there are very few Mac hacks, and anyways this is different from viruses which spread by themselves.) And it is a myth that there are no viruses simply due to a lower market share. There are probably more unprotected Macs than unprotected Windows computers, yet there are 200,000 Windows viruses and 0 Mac OS X or Linux viruses (since these operating systems are Unix-based).

What would you choose???

What would you choose Norton Antivirus 2006 with an year subscription for no cost,

OR

Avast Antivirus with Zone Alarm firewall (free editions)

What is your choice????

What would you choose???computer

Avast Antivirus with zone alarm firewall

What would you choose???free spyware

norton
On the tech forum I go to it those list Avast as being one of the top two free virus programs.
Avast

I tried Norton and then had to have the Geek Squad come and fix my laptop. DON'T use it!!
avast and zone alarm are ok but i recommend avg antivirus and comodo firewall, both free and easier on your system resoueces

avg http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_an...

comodo http://www.filehippo.com/download_comodo...

you can try both combinations but i assure you avg and comodo is the best route.....norton is terrible and will drastically slow down even the best systems on the market. the only decent 'norton' product is the corporate antivirus client
Norton
Avast Antivirus with Zone Alarm firewall (free editions)
my choice is avg www.grisoft.com

How can i remove trojan horse in my computer?

i have avast antivirus i schedule a boot-time scan and i press repair but an error always occured! is ther any antivirus i can use and free

How can i remove trojan horse in my computer?computers

If Avast can detect the trojan, it might be able to remove it in safe mode.

To boot into safe mode, turn off your PC, start it again and press F8 during the bootup screen. Then choose to boot into safe mode.

Once in safe mode, do a full system scan using Avast and hopefully it will be able to remove it.

If not, dump Avast and change antivirus' to Avira AntiVir PE Classic and give that a try. It is completely free and has VERY good detection rates. It also uses much less system resources than Avast.

You might need to download some anti-trojan/anti-spyware scanners too.

I highly recommend you download and run;

A-squared FREE - this is very good at removing trojans. It is free and can be downloaded here: http://www.emsisoft.de/en/software/free/

SUPERAntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

Check on google. they have a malware scan, I think.
1. Download and run firefox to protect your from future spyware attacks and pop ups which are coming in through internet explorer (Trojan downloaders, win32 ) .Then update your windows through firefox

That way, if anything does get through, your computer will just explode! I highly recommend it for people who have security packages such as yours.

More memory and CPU power to run all that crap.
I think you are a little paranoid but other then that i dont think anything is getting through
How do you have room to run any other programs? This might be a little on the paranoid side. I trust my Bitdefender 10 to do everything and it hasn't let me down yet. Maybe I am being naive - but when I had other stuff on there it slowed to a snail's pace..

What should i do about a bad virus if i...?

Scan again with both your programs in safe mode and try and attempt removalagain.

In general, Windows does not allow the deletion of files when they are in use. However, Safe Mode will only load a minimum amount of drivers and services to run Windows, giving removal a better chance. Scan again and attempt to delete while your computer is in safe mode.

To access Safe Mode, reboot then repeatedly press the F8 key at the first screen. The screen will look strange, but don't panic. This is normal in Safe Mode.

When finished removing those pests, reboot again to return to normal mode.

Zonealarm
You can change to safe mode which is for when you have a virus, and you can't get rid of it. If you have to you can reformat your computer.
I would suggest that you try to do a System Restore and see if that helps you.

Rating virus/Antispyware/Adware programs?

I'm trying to protect my computer with the best (free) programs that I can. I have Norton that came with my computers' software bundle, but it's a resource hog and is huge.

I've been looking at these for AntiVirus:

AVG - I've tried it already, though a lot of people said it's not that great and doesn't pick up a lot of viruses very well).

Avast - I have tried this one as well...but just the same as with AVG, a lot of people said it wasn't all that great at picking up various viruses.

Trend Micro - I know they have been around for a very long time (I know of them by the years-old name "PC-Cillin" Antivirus).

Nod32 - Not sure if this one costs to buy it...haven't looked into it yet, but a lot of people seemed to like it in reviews that I have red. Never heard of it.

Bit Defender: Apparently this is a free version of some kind of antivirus/antispyware program by Microsoft. It seemed to get good reviews, though.

Avira - too many false postives and it some what system instable

AVG is still rated better than Avast ( stability problems plague it ) and is still what i reccomend.
